Writing Workshop October 2015

Writing Workshop October 2015

This month, in Writing Workshop, we will be creating our Writer's Notebook.  Students have already created their Writing Territories, a list of topics and ideas that are important to them as writers.  This long list of topics will serve as an idea bank to fuel our writing throughout the year.  We are beginning to write entries on these topics the first week of October.  Soon, we will be starting our unit on the Personal Essay:  a piece that makes a personal statement about our lives, people who are important to us, and our world.

Some of the grammar work we will be exploring is listed below:
Grammar
Text Structure
  • Use indentation and spacing to set off paragraphs
Grammar, Syntax
  • Write simple and compound sentences
  • ID and correct fragments and run-ons
  • Write complete sentences with noun and verb agreement

  • Capitalize proper nouns: month day, holidays, city, state, country, titles, organizations, regions, languages, NOT seasons or directions or subject areas
